Voting on Poll
Just a short post but can you take a second to vote on my poll? It would be much appreciated if you support me in my topic. This can also be used as data I can analyse later. Thanks!
Watch What You Say
Usually, the main cause of self harm in teens is internal emotional turmoil or bullying. Saying things like "Oh, go cut yourself you emo" or "What are you going to do, cut yourself?" is actually really offensive. You may not realize it, but it really gets into that persons head and sits there, in their mind. The word "emo" is one of the worst things you can say. What does "emo" stand for? Emotionally unstable? Emotionally disturbed? Seriously, don't say things like this. If you hear someone say things like this, please tell them off.

Self Harm
Self harm can be inflicted in many ways, not just cutting yourself. Drug abuse is abusing your body just foe a temporary gain of freedom, but in reality, you are just destroying yourself. Many people drink their sorrows away with beer and alcohol, but in the end, the problems are still there. Also, eating disorders can harm you. Whether over or under eating, neither is beneficial. A good, nutritious and balanced diet can help you stay healthy and can also improve your psychological behavior. Driving people away to bask in your sorrows is a mental self harm; not only are you going to suffer from isolation and loneliness, friends and family can become worried about your state.
When facing a stage of depression, don't succumb to it, fight back by moving forward from your sorrows, leave the past behind, what is done is done. If you ever feel you can not cope, talk to your peers or family and there are many places that help with self harm.

How to help a child through parenting
Parent do's and dont's from teenhelp.com
Don't
React with anger.
Go into denial about the problem.
Assume this is a "phase" your teen will outgrow.
Say "What did I do wrong as a mother (father) for you to do this to yourself."
Ask "Why are you doing this to yourself?"
Try to hide sharp objects. It's an ineffective deterrent. If your child wants to self-injure, she'll find a way.
Do
Admit you and your child need help.
Take the problem very seriously. This is not just attention-seeking behavior.
Be completely supportive.
Immediately seek treatment for your child.
When figuring that your child is harming themselves talk to a family physician. Even after consulting and treating your child don't assume that he/she is okay. Be aware of their behavior and don't leave them alone for long periods of time.
